This is a my 24th year of reading the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Reading God's Word through each year has blessed my life. The Bible reveals the Will of God for our life and how to be sure that Heaven will be our eternal home.We completed another year of reading the Bible today and look forward to starting over again tomorrow.God's Word is a "light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet." Surrounded by our family, Christmas was extra special for us. It was a cold, rainy night as we all sat huddled together on a bench watching the Bible come alive.

Gabriel visited Mary, announcing the most glorious event of human history. “The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you like a shining cloud” (Luke 1:35). Then shall come a miracle above all the miracles humanity has ever known—the birth of Jesus Christ.

We sat in awe as the live donkeys, camels, cows, and other animals surrounded baby Jesus as he lay in the manger.

Under the magnificent, bright shining star, the Magi bowed to the baby as they presented their treasures of gold, incense, and myrrh. Christmas begins here in the manger as the story of Christ’s birth unfolds. Just as the Magi bowed down and worshipped Him may our hearts be prepared every day to honor our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God had not forsaken Mary. He knew exactly where she was, and she was exactly where He wanted her to be.

Jesus was born a child of destiny just as each one of us. May we never forget the Christmas story and share it with all of our friends.

Getting Motivated

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24

Zig Ziglar stated in his Get Motivated Workbook, “I truly believe that you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”

Does motivation really help? Mr. Ziglar said “Motivation gets you going, but habit gets you there.”

There are several reasons to stay motivated. (1) Because you are a Christian, you have something to say that enriches lives. (2) You struggle with the same problems others do. As you relive them on paper, you not only help others, but you also find a better understanding of yourself. Hearing what others may be going through inspires me to help them.

Make motivation a habit.

A Good Attitude Requires Discipline

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ: who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Philippians 2:5-7

The greatest example we have is our Lord and how he lived. No matter where he went he always stopped to talk with others no matter where they were in their spiritual life, or even if they were not Christians.

Are you secure in who you are? Spend time taking care of you—as your life is important to God and who you are depends a lot on how secure you are in what you accomplish with your life.

Submit yourself to authority – read books about attitude – One of my favorite books is Winning Attitude by John Maxwell.

Having a good attitude requires discipline.

A Prayer for Today
Father, help us to choose each day to be filled with your love, peace, and joy. My husband and I love to travel. We went to VA Beach several years ago with our son and his family.

We climbed the Cape Henry Lighthouse, one of the oldest historic lighthouses. This was a topic for an assignment I wrote for Warner Press publishers.

One of the first magazine articles I had published was written after an interview. While listening to the radio, I heard a testimony and thought it would make a great magazine article. I called the radio station and received permission to interview the individual. Starlight magazine later published her story.

Ideas for magazine articles are everywhere, and the periodicals to write for are just as plentiful. Do you have a personal experience story to share? Or, if you don’t have any material from your own experience to write about, consider interviewing interesting people around you and writing their stories.

What magazine do you read on a consistent basis? Your familiarity with these publications and the types of articles they publish give you some needed background. Study these magazines and know what kind of articles they publish. Take time to cut out those articles you may need for later resource material.

Some of the magazines I have written for are Pentecostal Evangel, The Upper Room, Devo'zine, Light & Life, Pathways to God, and Woman's World.

Are You Ready - Repost from Rachel Hauck

I read this on author Rachel Hauck’s blog Friday and asked her if she would grant me permission to reprint it for my blog. She graciously said “Sure!”

So, below is a direct reprint, with permission.

Are you ready? He is coming! by Rachel Hauck, Sunday, March 20, 2001. (reprinted with permission)

The Friday of the Japan earthquake and tsunami I had an overwhelming sense while driving to meet friends for lunch, "He's coming! He. Is. Coming!"

Excitement met with expectation met with, "Wow!" My spirit rejoiced while my mind search for all the reasons I should be afraid. I mean, have you read Revelation? Yeah, it gets ugly.

I'm not a pretrib rapture believer. There's no Bible to support it. There are 150 chapters in the Old and New Testament dealing with the second coming of Jesus. They point to the Church partnering with Him, praying for His kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.

Yet I know as evil increases, so will the glory and light of the Lord. The book of Revelation is the book of Acts supersized.

Isaiah prophesies this:

"For behold, darkness will cover the earth

And deep darkness the peoples;
But the LORD will rise upon you
And His glory will appear upon you.

-- Isaiah 60:2

We have a job to do. It will be completed when Jesus returns. We are His partners on the earth, boots on the ground and our prayers and intercession will wage war against the evil rising on the earth

The Spirit and the Bride say come! Revelation 22:17. (We can't say come if we're not here.)

The buzz this week is Rob Bell's new book, “Love Wins.” I've not read it yet, but will when it releases. But I've read quotes and discussed the book with others. There's an idea that a loving God won't send anyone to hell.

“We send ourselves to hell by not believing in Jesus.” So says Bell.

While God the Father is loving eternally, Bell forgets about the Father-God who is also eternally just. Is Bell thinking deep about the Father's heart. Bell asks, "Would He send anyone He claims to love to hell?"

To which I gaze at the Cross. The Father loved and continues to love Jesus and look what He asked Him to do.

That's the point. Jesus and the Father loved each other and US so much, Jesus submitted to the Father's plan of redemption.

If you don't receive it, you receive the result. Wrath. Which includes a fiery hell.

Here's what Jesus says, "Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

Here's what why I'm writing this blog. Do your own prayer and study on the second coming and on hell. Expand your resources and above all, read the Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you. Hang around like minded men and women who are interested in the truth, not affirming theology. There's a lot of bad theology out there.

John 14: 26: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.

1 John 2:27: "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

Hard times are coming. Our faith, our hope will be tested. Unless we are rooted and ground in Him, we just may falter.

Know Him. Know Him.
You can View the article online...

RACHEL HAUCK is a graduate of Ohio State University, and is a former software trainer. She published her first novel in 2004. Rachel lives in central Florida with her husband.

Thank you, Rachel, for allowing me to share this with my readers. I felt awkward but obeyed and received my degree in Theology in 1995.

How can we strive to achieve the best God has for us?

A Prayer for Today
Lord, guide us as we pursue excellence—help us to guard our heart and stay in touch with our inner feelings.

Imitate Christ's Humility

"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves." Phil 2:3

For us to imitate the humility of Christ, we must sit in His presence, fast, pray, read God's Word daily, and memorize Scripture.

We need to lean on His guidance, and have a desire to be more like Him. Let's strive to do all we do out of love and not out of conceit or pride.

God has given each of us a testimony to share. It has blessed my life. The Bible reveals the Will of God for our life and how to be sure that Heaven will be our eternal home.

We soon will complete another year of reading the Bible and look forward to starting over again January 2011.

God's Word is a "light unto our path and a lamp unto our feet."

Be fully prepared to face the future. But most of all, prayer and a desire to write what God places on his/her heart.

I took a book proposal to the Florida Christian Writers’ Conference this year and after having two editors review it, I made several changes.

There were times when I would lay the manuscript down, trying to forget it existed. I did not feel I could write a devotional for writers. Yet, I knew this manuscript was inspired from on high.

Most of what has been written came from our writers’ group, Central Georgia Christian Writers. I plan to use this book to help writers draw closer to the Lord as we write for Him, through Him and to Him so others may know Him.

Do you have a vision? A goal? A plan? I received an assignment several months ago to write some devotions.

It’s important to remember to get those assignments back to the editor well before the deadline and you can be sure to receive another assignment in the future.

Writing devotions on assignment is a challenge because the editor sends a Scripture for that particular day. I then write a story in line with God’s Word.

God still opens doors but sometimes we need to ask!

A Prayer for Today
Father, thank you for opening the doors that only you can open. The excitement of even thinking about the rest and relaxation thrilled us. We decided to celebrate my 60th and her 40th birthday on a cruise to the Bahamas.

As I reflect on the memories, it’s as if we are still on the ship enjoying a nice facial and massage, relaxing in the sun, and eating all the delicious food.

Cindi picked me up early in her red sports car, all dressed in a straw hat, shorts, and sandals. She said, “Hey Mom, let’s stop at the Waffle house and eat breakfast.” After eating a delicious waffle, we were on our way to Port Canaveral, Florida.

I had made reservations at the Holiday Inn for our first night in Florida. The ocean view room was breathtaking and the weather delightful.
After checking into the Holiday Inn, I said, “Let’s eat lunch at the Cove, a nice little sea food restaurant.” We ate a delicious lunch filled to the brim with shrimp, clams, and fish. After eating, we shopped at a mall across the street from our motel.

We settled in early as we were both tired from the drive to Port Canaveral and excited over boarding the Carnival Fantasy Ship the next day.

Woke up bright and early and got ready for another great day. We stopped and ate breakfast at a small restaurant near the cruise line.

“Oh, Mom, look out your window,” Cindi pointed at the great, big ship with a huge red fin on top. Wow! We were ecstatic! Arriving at the Carnival Cruise line by 9:00 and couldn’t board until 1:00, we enjoyed checking our luggage in early. Also found a close parking place. I laughed, “We have the whole parking lot.” We found a nice cool area to sit and dream of our next few days.

Our travel agent had our room upgraded to deck 7 and our cabin steward was there every morning to greet us and take care of any needs. The stewards placed neat little towels folded like cute little animals on our bed each evening with little pieces of chocolate on our pillow.

While the ship was docking in Nassau, I was enjoying the spa. We ate a delicious breakfast in the Jubilee dining room.

Cindi and I, all dressed in our shorts, halters, and straw hats, went by boat to the Blue Lagoon, a beautiful island with the prettiest blue-green water. After eating a $4.00 hamburger on the island, we walked the sandy beach for awhile, and then boarded the boat back to Nassau.

We shopped at the straw market and bought a few souvenirs. After taking a picture of Cindi with one of the native Bahamians, I said, “Let’s go back to our ship and get ready for the Captain’s dinner.”

We dressed up in our beautiful black and gold evening dresses and went to dinner early. The crew always makes plenty of pictures so we had special memories of a most delightful journey.

Later during the evening we enjoyed a delightful Broadway musical. It was great entertainment! This was a magical moment watching all the dancers so full of life dressed in their dazzling, bright-colored costumes.

Then of course, the midnight buffet was “a sight for sore eyes” my grandmother would have said. We took plenty of pictures as no one would believe us if we told them how much food was on the buffet. A striking sculptured ice ship shaped like the Carnival Fun ship, an iced carved turkey and the delicious desserts were worth staying up late.

The next morning, while Cindi was enjoying her two hour spa, I sat by the pool relaxing in the sun and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The weather was absolutely beautiful the whole time at sea.

Our last night on board we ate steak and lobster. The dessert was delicious baked Alaska. Everyday was organized from start to finish. What a blessing our first cruise was and we both look forward to another in the future.

The ship docked at Port Canaveral at 6:00 am. We were up early, dressed, and ate a delicious breakfast of eggs, pan cakes, sausage, bacon, OJ and coffee at the Windows by the Sea. We saw the huge ships including the Disney Cruise ship on the dock.

This was truly a wonderful trip full of memories. Our birthdays will be remembered forever as a time of celebration, reflection, and most of all, the love of a mother and her daughter.

Lesson Learned

“Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:9

After attending a writer’s seminar in St. Louis, I learned an important lesson. Christian writers have a special responsibility. We are called to tell and retell the greatest story ever told. Among the many words the Psalmist wrote, the words found in Psalms 119 seem most appropriate to the ministry of Christian writing. “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Psalms 119:130

We must write intelligently, passionately and profoundly those words that will change lives. Christian writing is a calling. When God calls us to write, He equips us to accomplish this task. We must practice and be committed to the calling. Writing is a God-given talent, a gift. We can’t take credit for it but must take responsibility to do it.

Don’t be satisfied to just commute truth—tell it like no one else. Learn from reading the great authors, those skilled writers. The only way to become a writer is to write and rewrite! If the ministry of writing does not depend on the Holy Spirit to help you, the reader will not receive what God reveals. Develop a discipline--have a broad range of reading--read several books often--any kind, novels, etc. Look at other ideas. Psalm 45:1

Writing devotions can be rewarding. I have written many over the years on assignment for Pathways to God. Also have published several devotions in Devo Zine and The Upper Room.

Even though devotions seem easy to do, they need to be written with care. Editors get many of these so make yours shine.

Always gear your material toward what the magazine wants. The editor usually will send a Scripture and outline for the assigned issue.

Anecdotes should always be true and make it like a little story with a sharp beginning, middle and conclusion.

Skilled writers learn from their mistakes and keep on writing.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, it’s not by might, nor power, but by your Spirit that keeps me writing for you. Let me wait on your guidance each day as I meditate on your wisdom.

March Newsletter

Travel Writing

“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.” Genesis 2:1

I’ll always remember the day the plane descended into the remote wilderness of Fairbanks, Alaska. I knew this had to be one of the most incredible places we would ever live. The majestic, snowcapped mountain peaks with the rushing rivers were an awesome sight.

I gazed in awe at the stunning contrast of the snowcapped mountains against the blueness of the Gulf of Alaska. Our tour of duty was for only two and a half years; however, the memories of this adventure would last forever!

After unpacking and settling in base housing, we met many wonderful friends. They told us about all the different places to visit. We had a wonderful opportunity to see much of the native culture.

Watching moose and caribou scraping snow aside to find food in the early morning hours was always a moving sight. Big, brown bears with their cubs walking beside the road, hunting for food, made picture-taking fun. We usually had our camera so we would not miss anything.

And, of course, I can’t forget the Northern Lights, (aurora borealis), the luminous atmospheric phenomenon which resembles a magnificent rainbow splashed across the sky.

Making memories last forever.

A Prayer for Today
Oh, Father, your world is magnificent. It’s easy to dream up reasons not to write—you’re afraid your article won’t be up to par; you don’t think you’ll be able to come up with an idea, you remember all the chores you could be finishing instead of taking time to write, etc.

We must discipline ourselves to write. I woke up at 5:00 a.m. this morning and read my devotions and Bible. This is the best time for me to write, usually after reading and meditating on God’s Word.

Find out what works for you. Since I am an early riser, my writing time is in the morning. My thoughts are clear at this time. I usually will go to my office and start writing on my computer. Occasionally, while writing I take a moment to enjoy a cup of coffee.

Pleasing God requires discipline.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, Sometimes I come with a drained heart and a cluttered mind. I have taken on more than you have asked and suffer with the consequences. So often I add the seemingly good things and it dilutes your power in me. When will I understand? You will never ask more of me than you will equip me to accomplish. I ask for wisdom to choose what is best.

January 2008

“Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 3:3

The Art of Interviewing

I interviewed several people in books I have written. Before interviewing these individuals, I attended a writers’ conference. One of the key speakers, Sue Monk Kidd, taught a workshop on interviewing. I bought her tape and it has helped me tremendously over the years.

First, always check to see if your tape recorder has new batteries and operates well. Carry a small note pad and at least two pens. Bring a list of questions.

Second, be sensitive to the person you interview. Listen carefully during the conversation and maintain eye contact. I interviewed a woman who lost her home and all of her furnishings in a flood. I can remember turning off my tape recorder and hugging her when she began to cry as she shared her testimony.

In addition, always pray before the interview asking God for sensitivity and wisdom.

Seek Godly wisdom in all things.

A Prayer for Today
Father, guide me as I interview those whom you place in my path. As we relive our own problems on paper we not only help others, but also find a better understanding of ourselves.

Through a single article we have the potential to reach thousands of people. I recently had a devotion published in a devotional for the Church of God. This devotion was published on Christmas Day. The title is Why Jesus Came to Earth. I shared some of what my son's pastor preached last Christmas. His conclusion was simple: Jesus came to show us what God is like. "The Son is the radiance of God's Glory and the exact representation of his being." Hebrews 1:3

A single sentence in our writing might revolutionize someone’s life. This thrills me to know we can reach many people with the Good News of the Gospel.

It is always a joy to get an idea, write it, and then outline what we have written.

We write primarily for emotional rather than financial rewards for we are blessed to be a blessing.

Christian writing is a precious gift from God.

A Prayer for Today
Dearest Lord, It’s all about you. I was reading the Bible, and silently prayed, “God, you have been so good to me, what can I do for you?” I opened my Bible to this Scripture and it has changed my life.

This was the beginning of my writing ministry. It has been a journey starting with writing a column for my local newspaper, writing numerous articles and devotions for publication, and completing my fifth book this year.

The most important lesson I have learned is that Christian writers have a responsibility. We must write intelligently, passionately, and profoundly those words that will change lives.

When God calls us to write, He equips us to accomplish the task. We must practice and be committed to the calling. Writing is a talent, a gift. We cannot take credit for it, but we must take responsibility to do it.

Don’t be satisfied to just commute truth: tell it like no one else.

A Prayer for Today

Dearest Lord,
May my heart offer worship, my lips speak your praises, and my words bring you glory. This act of kindness not only blessed them, but they seemed to be more attentive to the study.

Our message is to tell others that love is a powerful gift from God. Even more, we need to show others what obedience requires in specific life situations. We must show readers that there are ideas they might never have considered that are not only credible, but also compelling.

Everywhere we go there are people worse off than we can imagine. Recently, my husband and I returned from our vacation to VA Beach. We climbed the Cape Henry Lighthouse, one of the oldest historic lighthouses. This will be a topic for an assignment I am writing for Warner Press publishers.

July Newsletter

Let’s Write a Journal

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Several years ago, my daughter Cindi and I went on a cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate our birthdays. As I reflect on the memories in my journal, it is as if we are still on the cruise ship laughing, sunbathing, and enjoying the delicious food.

Journaling gives our souls time to rest, it lets us escape from the noise and clutter of everyday life.

It also is important to write in a journal to remember all the exciting people we meet and places we visit. Most important, for writers, rereading our journal and using some of what we have written can make a great magazine article.

I sold a story to Woman’s World, but if I had not kept a journal, I would not have remembered the details to include. Keeping a journal beside my Bible and writing during my daily devotion time has helped me to meditate on the Scriptures. I write down what I feel God is quietly teaching me from His Word.

The life of a Christian is a journey; it should be a great adventure of daily going on with the Lord into deeper experiences and greater faith.

Welcome your journal into your life.

Excerpt from Moments of Reflection, Inspirational Thoughts for Writers
http://inspirationalthoughtsforwriters.blogspot.com

June Newsletter

Developing Our Skills

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. He taught us how to form a Church writers’ group in our community.

After silently praying, “Lord, what can I do to apply this workshop to my life,” I returned home and formed a writers’ group in our community.

Mr. Russell stated, “Christians who are frustrated by the moral deterioration of America are in a position to do something that can help fuel a major revival. We can sow the seed of God’s Word as never before. And we can do it by means of a rather unexpected source—the secular print media.”

Our group sent letters to the local newspaper editors about various problems and offered Scripture-based solutions. Teaching this small group led to my having a weekly Christian column in the local newspaper, and writing my first book, Discipling a Community.

As we teach others, we also learn to develop our skills.

A Prayer for Today
Lord, your Word is a light to my path, and to the path of my readers. The following is an excerpt from her book, The Victor's Cry.

Are you a woman seeking God’s heart, desiring to break strongholds, and longing to live a victorious life? Are you struggling with loving the Lord with all your mind? Or do thoughts of your past haunt you? Are you losing the Battle of Doubt and the War on Worry?

The Prince of Peace longs to rock your world. He is the surgeon who repairs broken hearts. He wants you to come into His presence with boldness, so he can heal your soul with His unconditional love and the joy of His strength.

The Victor's Cry encourages you to experience a victorious Christian life as you enter into the presence of the King and learn how to love Him with all of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your strength. Here is an excerpt of their stories:

Accidental Blessing
I will never forget the day God personally showed up and visited me in my home, forgave me, delivered me, healed me, and changed me! The miracle of that moment is etched on my heart. God intimately taught me when we live in Him accidents do not occur. God became real in my life and supernaturally turned the accidental events of my life into phenomenal blessings.
Ann Jolissaint

Beyond the Cross
I know God loves me. His Word states it, and I clearly understand how much He loves me each time I remember the Cross. He sent His Son to die for me, what greater expression of love? So, it must be the nature of the flesh, or maybe it is an element of the characteristic of God put into us that makes us want to hear the words "I love you." and to see displays of love in our everyday lives.
Jan Leary

Writers' Responsibility
When God calls us to write, He equips us to accomplish the task. "Christian writing is more than entertainment; it can make a difference in people's lives. It is not a desk job, it is ministry. It is the Christian writer's ministry to grip the reader in order to make a positive change in his or her life. I don't write to impress or to make a living. I write to touch lives. That motivation influences everything that I write" (from The Write Way, a believer's guide to effective communication).
Judy Davis

March

I was a stay at home mom, married to a wonderful man, who was a good provider and a Christian. We already had two children, a boy and a girl ages nine and ten. We felt like we had the family we wanted and our storybook life.

I mentioned to my doctor we had decided not to have any more children. But God had different ideas for us. One week after I shared that realization with my doctor, I got pregnant with our third child, a boy we named Jeremiah. When we named him, we were unaware of the hand of God on his life.

Jeremiah was a very charismatic child. Everyone loved him. People would ask to take him places with them because he not only got along with the children his own age, but was a buffer between their children of all ages. He was also afraid of nothing and had a lot of self confidence. Jeremiah was raised in church. From the time he was born, he attended church every time the doors opened. He loved to sing for Jesus and was in dramas in church. He loved every minute of it.

When he was approaching his teenage years many new experiences met him and the devil showed him self. He was offered drugs and alcohol and because of his fear of nothing, decided to try them and liked them. He ended up getting hooked on alcohol and drugs at a very young age. He still excelled in school. He got as many of his friends as he could to try drugs and he even sold them.

His dream was to go to University of Georgia in Athens. His dream was realized. His housing and meals were paid for as well as his tuition and books. I’m not sure he even attended a class. He was so strung out on drugs; he didn’t even know what was going on. He ended up getting kicked out of his dorm having no place to go.

We found out what was going on and tried to change the road he was going down. All our prayers and warning did little to change his direction. His dad and I felt like we had no more control over him. He had turned 18. It was like the Lord was telling us to give him back to Him. So we did.

We sat Jeremiah down and told him, “When you were born, we dedicated you to the Lord and the Lord gave you back to us to raise. We are no longer able to control you and hold up our part of the bargain, so we are giving you back to God.” We were no longer responsible for him. He was now God’s problem.

At that moment things started to change in his life. This meant when he hit bottom after he got to UGA it must have been God’s plan. Jeremiah doesn’t know how but somehow he got in the lobby of the dorm that a girl from our church lived in. Someone got help for him and called our associate pastor.

He and Jeremiah’s dad went from Savannah to Athens and picked up Jeremiah and brought him home. The teen challenge director in Savannah brought him to the Teen Challenge center in Sanford, FL. He spent a year in the program in Sanford. He had some ups and downs; it wasn’t all roses for him. But he finished the program and the Lord met him in his time of need.

He rededicated his life to the Lord and was filled with the Holy Spirit. He was baptized in the Atlantic Ocean. When his year was finished, he went to the Island of Barbados and worked in the Teen Challenge center there.

When he came home he was undecided which road to take. One option he was considering was going to Masters Commission in Griffin, GA. We encouraged him and he went there for three years to prepare for ministry. He is currently a youth pastor at a Church in Georgia. During all these years we encouraged him whenever we could.

We went to Sanford Teen Challenge whenever he had visitation. We took him on little trips when he had time off. And of course, the Lord never forsook him. Even when he didn’t care about the Lord or heavenly things, the Lord was always right beside him to pick him up. The Lord doesn’t rescue us every time we get ourselves into trouble; he waits for us to call on His name. But He never leaves us nor forsakes us.

By Nancy
Published in
http://thencomesthemorning.blogspot.com

February 2007

UNLIKELY FRIENDS

Unlikely friends, one born in the north,
one born in the south;
worlds apart, no way to connect.
The Lord of Heaven and earth looked down one day,
and designed their paths to cross.
He smiled with approval, poured down blessings and anointing
from above and gave them a
moment of friendship to follow His purpose and His plan.

Unlikely friends, rejected, distressed,
and wounded in spirit, lonely on life’s road;
two forgotten hearts destined for despair.
But, God from His sanctuary, heard and smiled upon them;
fashioned their hearts together as
He guided their steps in an amazing heavenly way.
Crossing the darkest path simultaneously
un-knowing that their lives would be
changed forever as God divinely appointed
a moment of friendship to follow His purpose and His plan.

Unlikely friends were joined together as God spoke
forth songs of deliverance with gladness from His dwelling place.
His loving-kindness surrounded two hearts in a miraculous way,
that otherwise would never likely become friends.
A compassionate God brought their lives together
to prove He rides upon the highest heavens
and His majesty and love showers humanity.
Two friends, who will never be the same, transformed by God
Who did not forget two hearts of unlikely friends destined
to follow His purpose and His plan.

We sing sweet praises to God, thanking Him for
a Heavenly aroma, a fragrant portion on two unlikely friends.
The utterance of our lips humbly bow in adoration

as we now walk in the light
of His countenance because the strong arm of God sought out
and joined forever in eternity the north and the south,
for Thou has created them for His purpose and His plan.
Two hearts, two unlikely friends; who when God spoke the Word
learned the beauty of friendship, that unlikely friends
could most likely become friends at the most unlikely moment
through a divinely appointed time
simply ordered to follow His purpose and His plan.

By M. It's also busy and exciting with Christmas programs, get togethers, decorating, shopping, wrapping, addressing cards and letters, and enjoying each new day left in 2006.

Our topic for this month is Embrace the Vision. The last lesson taken from the Church Writing Group AMY Foundation.

D.L. Moody said, "It is better to set a hundred men to work than to do the work of a hundred men." Our job may seem formidable, but if it is shared with others who embrace the vision, the load will be lighter.

Embrace the vision
....for developing a discipling work ethic
Apathy, complacency, distractions and even hostility by others can all threaten to keep us from obeying God's command to make disciples. Writing only when we feel like it, or when we feel "inspired" is not enough; we must make discipleship a priority and be faithful to teach God's word through our writing on a regular basis.

...for persisting in adversity or disappointment
Even under cloudy conditions, World War II bombers knew they were getting close to their targets when anti-aircraft flack grew stronger. We are guaranteed the same opposition by our enemy the closer we get to our target. Teaching God's Word will almost always invite resistance.
When God called Ezekiel, He said, "neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions, neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence...But you shall speak My words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious." (Ezekiel 2:6-7)
We, like Ezekiel, are called to communicate God's truth. God does not call us to win every time; he just wants us to show up for the job every day. Some readers will scoff, some will ridicule. But if we do our best, many will believe and learn what it means to live as a disciple of Christ.

Hope you all have a blessed holiday and look forward to the New Year as we "write the vision and make it plain." (Habakkuk 2:2)

November Newsletter

The majestic power of God surrounded me and my husband as we celebrated my birthday this week in a chalet in the mountains. What an awesome sight seeing the breathtaking fall colors and enjoying the cool, clear evenings around a crackling fire.

Our topic for November is Expanding Your Knowledge.

Read to obey - Willingness to be an obedient reader is the key to effective learning. A.W. Tozer said, "One reason why people are unable to understand great Christian classics is that they are trying to understand without any intention of obeying them." Ask God to show you what He wants you to learn through each book and how He will use you to teach others.

Read to "be transformed"- Romans 12:2 says: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will." This transformation implies not a single event, but a continuous, ongoing process. Our minds are renewed as we read and learn, devoting our learning time to God and His plans.

What to read - Find authors who challenge and inspire. A good author will introduce you to a variety of other good authors. Some of my favorite authors are: Beth Moore, Joyce Meyer, and Cynthia Heald. Reading the Bible is the most important book to read. I have been reading the Bible through Genesis-Revelation each year since 1988 and plan to continue.

Read to write - 1) as you prepare to write, pray for God to lay His message on your heart. 2) pray that His words would flow through you, that you would not write anything which runs counter to His truth. 3) Dedicate yourself to the ruthless pursuit of God's truth and its relevance to today's issues.

May you enjoy this beautiful fall season as we prepare our hearts in thanksgiving to God for all his abundant blessings.

October Newsletter

Out topic for this month is the importance of Unity Among Believers.

In his book, The Body, Charles Colson outlines three basic reasons to strive for unity.

. Unity is the essence of the church, which is centered on the One who professes ultimate reality and who calls us to be His body at work in the world.

. Without unity, evangelism is frustrated. In John 17, Jesus prays for the church and reveals that it is to be the community which shows the world what heaven will be like. Unity should be the attitude from which our writing flows.

. We must dwell in unity so the secular world cannot discredit the church. When we are divided and quarreling we diminish our own already-weakening influence in the world.

Protecting unity

True unity is not sought by pretending there are no differences in our belief systems, rather it is a determined effort not to "major in the minors." Christians must recognize and respect the differences among believers, while focusing on there great orthodox truths all Christians share.

We must:

. avoid using Scripture to support a particular doctrinal or denominational point of view
. refrain from labeling and alienating other Christians
. join hands to reach out with biblical compassion and concern for the needs of those around us
. unite in the battle against our real enemies, atheism, secularism and humanism
. confront with loving correction and instruction in the truth those who deny the fundamental of Christianity--especially those who call themselves "Christian"

Promoting unity

We can:

. highlight any efforts of area churches to unite and reconcile
. review the common goals Christians share
. encourage believers to unite with other Christians in the community in evangelism and social concern
. defuse battles over fine points of doctrine and redirect attention to the greater principles of Christianity

"The world isn't looking at our tracts and rallies and telecasts and study manuals. It is looking at us and how we behave. When it fails to see the unity of Jesus' followers--the church--it fails to see the validation that Christ is indeed the Son of the living God." Chuck Colson

September Newsletter

Our topic for this month is Teaching Without Preaching. This information is taken with permission from the Church Writing Group AMY Foundation.

Establish common ground

Once you understand your reader's frame of reference, demonstrate a knowledge and respect for their beliefs. For example, simply reciting long Bible quotes will not move a reader who rejects the authority of Scripture. Rather, he must be shown how God's way works. Be sensitive to the questions and objections your words will raise in the minds of your readers. Anticipate them and answer them in a compelling way.

Avoid Christian "jargon" which may confuse and alienate your readers. Establish credibility by choosing language that fits their perspective. Practice how to explain religious issues in secular terms.

Appeal to their felt needs. Are you writing about the value of strong families? Appeal to the universal need to feel loved, valued and secure. Demonstrate how God's ways provide for those needs to be met.

Establish a tone of humility and empathy with the reader. We must never preach "down" to those who fail to measure up to our high standards. Rather, extend the loving hand of patient encouragement to those who, like us, struggle with confusion and sin. Be specific and personal in your illustrations and applications. Personal testimony will open doors that preaching will not.

Challenge their frame of reference

Once you have established your understanding of a non-Biblical position, skillfully show the reader the superiority of God's way as revealed in His Word. Talk straight but let your genuine love show through.

Leave the results to God

Scripture tells us that God's truth will be "foolishness" to those who are not of the Spirit. Sometimes even the most intelligent, well-planned argument, skillfully woven with Scripture will fail to move your reader. You may even face hostile resistance to your message. Try not to take any attacks personally; rather be ready to defend your position in a loving non-confrontational manner. Remember that even Jesus, the perfect communicator, faced bitter resistance by the people He came to save. Success is not your concern; obedience to God is.

Pray that His words will go straight to the heart of those He is calling. Sow seeds of truth in faith, allowing God to bring them to harvest at the proper time. And persevere in bringing God's truth to a dying world.

Thank you for your prayers as we traveled to VA last month. My mother-in-law went home to be with the Lord 10 days after we all celebrated her 100th birthday.

August Newsletter

Hope you all are busy writing and staying cool in this hot weather.

Our topic for this month is Writing Skillfully.

Inspire. Use God's Word to fill the hungry void of the heart and lift the reader's eyes to Jesus. Help your readers to see the relevance of God's truth and the hope found in Him.

Entertain. Your writing competes with a vast array of printed materials demanding attention. Since we may provide the only opportunity for a reader to see God's Truth in print that day, it is vital that we give our best effort.

Challenge. We are called to spread the biting, cleansing salt of God's truth to the ends of the earth. The salt of our words, woven together with God's Word, may sometimes smart, but it must also challenge readers to think in different ways, to see things in a new perspective. Lovingly point out that there is another perspective which begs for attention.

Several elements of successful communications are:

1. Be interesting - A good writer edits and rewrites his material until it is so cleverly crafted that readers cannot resist reading..and believing!

2. Be respectful - Show respect for your readers by being aware of their needs, meeting them at their level of understanding, and giving them interesting truths they can apply to their lives. Even when discussing deep, intellectual theses, being sensitive to the real human needs of the reader will keep your writing from becoming dull or pedantic.

3. Be accurate and thorough - demonstrate that you know the topic. Research the facts and get them straight. Your article may be compelling and well-written, but if it contains even one factual error, the entire piece has lost its credibility. Be certain of every fact you include.

4. Be honest - Honest writing acknowledges that arguments run counter to yours. Through research and study you will understand the underlying principles behind issues and you will therefore be equipped to present a better case, using your research and employing God's truth.

5. Be compelling - Christian writers are often victims of misperception, especially by editors who fear the Christian viewpoint may be too much like a sermon. Show them your message is valid and timely. Be so articulate and compelling the editors will have no choice but to respect your article and publish it.

July was a busy month with reading and reviewing 30 books for the 14th Annual International Self-Published Book Award contest for Writers Digest. Completed this project last week. Also finished writing four devotions for Pathways to God, Warner Press publishers. Working on chapter 20 of a new book, A Promise of Hope. Keep my husband and I in your prayers as we will be leaving next week for Virginia to celebrate his mother's 100th birthday.

God bless you all as you continue writing for Him!

July Newsletter

"My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses for the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer." Psalm 45:1

Our discussion for this month is rightly handling the Word. This information is taken from the Church Writing Group Movement by the late Mr. James Russell, AMY Foundation.

We can describe ourselves as craftsmen wielding a tool: God's Word. Are we using it the way it was intended by the Master Craftsman? Christian writers should spend time in God's Word.

. Use Scripture in its entire context. Many Americans might think that the Bible says, 'money is the root of all evil,' when in fact it really says, "The love of money is the root of all evil." The meaning changes when seen in its full context! Never write into God's Word more-or less than He intended.

. Use a Scripture passage in balance with the rest of God's Word. One might see Old Testament stones of God's wrath upon evil nations as the full picture of a vengeful, jealous God, unless it is balanced with the mercy found at the cross.

. Continually scrutinize your own societal values and opinions. Strive to keep your biblical interpretation free of ethnic or social biases.

. When using someone else's words: cite the source: supply a book title and its author, or a magazine name, month and year.

. If you plan to quote more than 100 words, you should probably obtain permission by writing to the publisher.

. If your quoted material is likely to be controversial, provide as much information as possible. Name the title, author, publisher, date of publication and page numbers.

. A rule of thumb: fewer than 100 words from a full-length book is probably fair use.

. Public Domain means that copyright of a work has expired and use of this work is allowed. Works by such long-dead artists as Shakespeare and Dickens are in public domain. The only version of the Bible which is in the public domain is the King James Version. Other versions will indicate that permission is needed before using verses. Check the copyright page of your Bible. For instance, the New International Version (most perferred for writers) allows a writer to quote up to 1000 verses without first obtaining permission.

It's been a busy summer with reviewing thirty books for Writer's Digest's International Nonfiction Self-Published book contest, on assignment to write four devotions for the Church of God devotional, Pathways to God, and recently completed two sample devotionals for God's Word for Today. Also working on chapter 20 of a new book, A Promise of Hope.

Received an e-mail from Billie Wilson, Florida Christian Writer's conference. She is already taking registrations for their 20th anniversary celebration in March 1-4, 2007. In the past, alumni have received $15 for each first time conferee attending because of the alumni's recommendation. This is being replaced with a better offer. You can now receive a $50 rebate for each first time attendee that registers with your name on their registration form. The $50 rebate is payable when you arrive at the conference in March.

I've already mailed in my registration as this is going to be a great conference. Also, if you mail in early you will receive a discount.

Any questions, prayer or praise requests, send an email to: judys12@juno.com

Hope you all enjoy a blessed July 4th celebration!

June Newsletter

Welcome writers. Hope you all are busy writing, editing, or researching a good article. Special congratulations to Ann Jolissaint and Jan Leary for their work soon to be published in The Upper Room. What a blessing....this devotional touches millions...To God be the glory!

The theme for our newsletter this month is eliminating subtle sin in our lives, Another great teaching by Mr. Jim Russell, AMY Foundation.

Righteousness--the state of having no unconfessed sin in our lives--is the key to unlocking the Holy Spirit's power in our lives. It is vital that we ask God to identify any unconfessed sin, blatant or subtle, that hinders us from being effective witnesses to the truth. After He exposes unconfessed sin, confess, repent, and resolve those issues in Jesus' name. The good news is that He is waiting to release us from the guilt and control of that sin. His Spirit then fills us with power to be effective communicators of His vision and loving compassion.

Awareness of our sin and God's lovingkindness prevents us from developing a strident, judgmental attitude in our writing. Christians who take to task the morality of another must do so from a position of true humility, with an honest admission of personal vulnerability to sin. When God revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 33:19, He said, "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." God's character is bound up in His mercy. While we must take a stand on moral and ethical issues and reveal the perfections and value of God's law, any expression of God's nature must always be a proclamation of His mercy and compassion.

I am in the process of writing a book proposal for AMG publishers: If anyone has a testimony and would like to share for inclusion in this book: A Promise of Hope, Helping Loved Ones Overcome Addiction, please send an email. After volunteering the last few weeks for CIR (Christians In Recovery), I felt God's gentle nudge to write this manuscript.

Also sold an article to Light and Life magazine. An editor of Writer's Digest ask if I would be able to judge their nonfiction book contest. He spent long hours in prayer listening to the voice of the One who sent Him. As we learn to be quiet before the Lord and listen to His voice, we will know what He wants to say to the members of our communities. In this way we can be assured that His words go out in His time and with His power. As our wills and ideals become immersed in the mind of Christ, we become His hands, His voice, His ministers to mankind and He can change the world through us.

Prayer empowers the writer - Before we begin to write, we must ask God to reveal to us any unconfessed sin or harmful attitudes which would hinder our effectiveness. Satan would like nothing better than to bog us down in a swamp of guilt, unrighteousness, unresolved conflict, hurt and self-pity. When this happens our effectiveness as God's ministers is hampered.

Prayer prepares the audience - One of the most compelling principles of God's kingdom is that in our own strength, we can do nothing. Unless the Holy Spirit prepares the way, our message will be diminished. We must pray:

. that the message will be clear and concise
. that the editor who reads it will print it
. that those who need this message will see it
. that the hearts of the readers will be softened
. that God will use us according to His will

Please pray for me as I'll be speaking at my church this month on my new book, Living Abundantly.

April Newsletter

Welcome to all of our new writers. We now have 17 members who signed up for our newsletter. The next several months we will be discussing a series with permission from the AMY Foundation. Our first topic is: Speaking for God

Prepare to hear His call --we will be sheep who recognize the voice of their Shepherd and who will readily respond to the need of others to hear the truth. (Isaiah 6:8, John 10:14-16,27)

Perfect our message - An intimate knowledge of Scripture is our only safeguard against wrong doctrine and ensures that what we write really comes from God. In Isaiah, God says His ways are not our ways; His thoughts are not our thoughts. The only way to solve this dilemma is to allow His words and ideas to literally live in us and flow through our minds into every expression of our life.

Expand our subject matter - Scripture is full of stories and examples given for our instruction and encouragement. Some Christian writers feel they must tell the salvation story in every article. This isn't the case.

Strengthen our confidence and our hope. Knowing God ensures we will no longer be tossed by waves and blown here and there by every word of new clever teachings but will recognize the truth. Let it be your goal to say with Solomon: "The teacher searched to find just the right words, and he wrote what was upright and true."
